Learning Made FunMath 4 CentersThe fourth graders can be found reading stories, playing game, and working on the computer in math class. These activities are part of their math centers. Centers give the children a chance to work in small groups to learn new skills and practice previously learned skills. These hands- on activities are designed to increase the children's interest in math and help them learn while they are having fun. The skills covered this time include addition, subtraction, multiplication, problem solving, and the meaning of division. The games including "A Remainder of One", "Monkey Business", "Between the Pipes", and Multiplication Jenga. The children also have an independent practice sheet to work on that allows them to individually practice newer skills. The children really love working in centers. Karla R. says "They're fun and you can work with your friends." Ryan W.'s favorite center was Multiplication Jenga. He commented' "it made multiplication easier". Isaiah S. likes playing the games on the computer. He finds them "entertaining". Mrs. Johnson plans on organizing more centers in the future. |
