Art Zone is a special place where the students of St. Viator School can come to do fine arts projects during their busy school day. It is an all school
hands-on art program that was created by some of the school's parents about ten years ago. The parents wanted to teach their students about art
and let them experiment with real artist's tools and techniques to create their own masterpieces. Once a month, the students have the opportunity
to create pieces that go beyond the scope of normal art classes, and often mimic some of the world's greatest artists, like Vincent Van Gogh. Some of the art projects differ by grade level. For the most part, the children participate in the same project, but the degree of parental assistance varies. All |
students study and discuss the same famous artist, but the level of difficulty may be reduced for younger students. The Art Zone parents simplify the projects for the preschool through second graders so that every one can equally enjoy their time in Art Zone. Parent volunteers each have their own favorite part of Art Zone. Art Zone is beneficial because parents have the opportunity to engage students in hands-on learning about all types of artistic techniques. Parents like being Art Zone volunteers because it gives them an opportunity to be involved in their child's education. For some volunteers, the most exciting part of Art Zone is seeing the children's art work when it is finished. Art Zone is a special opportunity for every child to become an artist. Room 206 |
