Religion is not just a forty minute class at St. Viator School. The faculty, staff, and students infuse Christian values in all they do. In addition to teaching about our catholic traditions and values in class, the faculty plans lessons and organizes activities across the curriculum with the gospel message in mind. Both students and faculty try to live their lives as Jesus would.

This is the first year with a brand new religion series. The curriculum for each grade level has a main focus. For example, Miss Judy and her second graders are busy preparing for the sacraments of reconciliation and the Eucharist. While in seventh grade the students prepare to receive the sacrament of confirmation. This preparation includes, classroom instruction, special classes with Fr. Corey and Tom Cooke, as well as participation in service projects. While the primary grades are learning about God, our creator, and how to be faithful followers of Jesus; the middle grades are developing a deeper understanding of our traditions and sacraments. The sixth graders enjoy learning about the figures in the bible and how their own lives relate to them. Fr. Corey leads them in a weekly bible study.

In addition to class, the children participate in many activities to enrich their spiritual lives. Many of the Junior High students have committed to becoming Eucharistic ministers at the school liturgies, serving as role models to the younger students. Students in grades 5-8 have the opportunity to be altar servers at both school liturgies as and weekly Sunday masses. We have had many collections here at St. Viator for the needy: survival kits for the elderly, food for the hungry, and coats for the homeless. The children are always willing to help those in need.

We at St. Viator are lucky to have Fr. John and Fr. Corey. Both are dedicated spiritual leaders who serve as role models for the students. Their kindness, guidance, and concern for the students are evident in the liturgies they help plan and preside over, and in the way they interact with the students. St. Viator is truly a place where Christian values prevail.
