The Scholastic Book Fair is a fundraiser held at St. Viator School each year to earn free books for classrooms and libraries. An inventory of books is
provided by Scholastic to sell at the fair. The Book Fair is delivered and a representative helps set it up. The school must return the unsold
merchandise. The Scholastic Book Fair benefits our school because St. Viator receives a specific percentage of the books sold. This year's fair sales allowed us to use sixty percent of our sales to buy books for the school. Using the money St. Viator School earned, the teachers are able to look through a catalog and buy more books for their classrooms. The new books stimulate the students to increase their knowledge and make each student a more rounded person. |
Mrs. Giersch, our school librarian, is able to receive many free books for the library based on special promotions that Scholastic Books offers. Over the past two years, Mrs. Giersch has been able to enhance the library with more books for our students. Last year, all of the funds were used to purchase new books for the library. This year, the funds were divided between all classroom grade level teachers, the library, and our full-time reading specialist. The most popular books for the primary grades and preschoolers were the Skippy Jon Jones series. The preschool girls liked the Barbie princess books as well. The middle grades most popular book was Flags of our Fathers, and the Wizardology and Pirateology books were also good sellers. Room 203 |
