The children are very busy with their fractions, shapes, formulas, and so much more. They eagerly await their next math class to learn more. Despite their different studies, one thing is common they all enjoy math class.

Kindergarten is working on various things. One of their favorite things is sorting & graphing. They like to sort and graph everything, such as M&M's, weather, and boys and girls. They are also working on patterns, left/right, and shapes. They are learning shapes like circles, squares, triangles, ovals, diamonds, rectangles, spheres, cylinders, and cubes. The kindergarteners are also learning math that relate to real money. And finally they are learning simple addition and subtraction.

The first graders are working hard in math. They are working on word problems that include adding, subtracting, fractions, shapes, time, and money. The students are also working on special projects, such as "shape monsters". While working on this project they are learning to be creative about 3 D shapes, including cones, rectangular prisms, etc. They are continuing to work hard.

The 2nd grade is learning many things. In math they are learning about time, money, capacity, fractions, addition, and subtraction of 2 and 3 digit numbers with and without regrouping. The students are working on keeping math journal for math vocabulary in each chapter. They also are being challenged by doing a problem of the day at the beginning of each math class. The children love this and like competing with each other for the right answer.

The 3rd grade is working very hard in math. The biggest topic is multiplication. The 3rd grade is focusing very well on this skill. They are also preparing to challenge the other grades to multiplication races.

The 4th graders are working very hard at math. They are working on many different things. They are focusing on math facts, such as addition and subtraction to hundred thousands, multiplication facts, problems like 4 x 213 and 226 x 42, introduction to long division, and problem solving strategies. They are working on graphing projects that include bar graphs, pictographs, and line plotting. They are also using decks of cards to practice multiplication facts. They say that 4th grade math is hard work, but it's still pretty fun.

5th grade is very excited about learning new things in math. They are studying number sentences, operations with decimals and fractions. Also they are studying geometry and measurements.

6th grade is studying pre-algebra, ratios, proportions. They are also learning about percents, geometry, and measurements.

Both grades like to do hands-on activities while they learn; for example, they baked fraction pumpkin bread to reinforce fractions, mixed numbers, and operations with fractions. They begin each class with a spiral review to reinforce material already studied and to practice current material. Everyone thinks this is very helpful for preparing for the Terra Novas. As you could tell the students are enjoying their math studies.

The 7th grade math class is learning about integers, solving equations, rational numbers, ratio, proportions, and percents. They also are learning about geometry, area, and volume. They also made their own tessellations. The seventh graders are also working on word problems dealing with real life situations.

The 8th grade math class is learning about solving and graphing linear equations, functions, polynomials, factoring, and quadratic equations. The eighth graders are also working on word problems.
