Here at Saint Viator our music program is directed and run by Mr. Michael Glenn. Mr. Glenn and the students, Pre K-3 through eight, have
developed a repertoire of over forty songs. Throughout the grades students are engaged in singing, recognizing rhythm patterns, reading
music and playing instruments. In early childhood, the children sing songs and are introduced to basic instruments. Students in pre-K 3, 4 and kindergarten love to sing! Some of their favorite songs include: The Happy Train, Head and Shoulders, Fireman song and Thank you God. The children also love to use hand bells and tone bars while singing these songs. As children move into the primary grades they encounter songs that are liturgical in nature, have an upbeat spirit and are |
accompanied by a variety of percussion instruments. Three songs the primary students enjoy are, Down by the Bay, Soon and Very Soon and Jazz Waltz. In second and third grade students are also introduced to recorders. As students enter fourth and fifth grade they learn to identify rhythmic patterns, play drums and read basic music. The junior high students also enjoy singing songs. Fifth through eighth graders find excitement in learning to play the guitar. Students learn the relationship of chords and read sheet music. As students travel through Saint Viator from grade to grade, they are free to let loose and "feel the music" each time they enter Mr. Glenn's class. Room 110 |
