Kindergarten News: Miss Petraitis - Room 109
It has been a busy and fun year in Kindergarten! Everyone has grown so much since the beginning of the year. The Kindergartners have been learning new words each week and have gotten very good at reading them. We have learned dozens of sight words and everyone in class can read!! The Kindergartners should be very proud of themselves! Everyone can write their ABC's and numbers after this year because they have practiced so hard. In Language Arts, we have been practicing what sounds each letter makes and what sounds two letters make if they are standing next to each other. We have practiced writing sight words, color words, blend words, and many more. The Kindergartners have gotten pretty good at writing their own sentences and sounding out harder words.

The Kindergartners have learned a lot in math class! The students have learned about measuring, fractions, money, weight, adding, and even subtracting! The class caught on the adding so well that we were even adding double digit numbers! The Kindergartners had a lot of fun with adding and played many different games to practice their skills. Even though subtraction was a little harder, the students still caught on. Math has been a favorite subject all year long. In science class we have learned several fun ideas.

We have talked about dental awareness, the food pyramid, magnets, Earth friendly things, Ocean creatures, and recycling. However, the Kindergartners liked learning about butterflies the best!! The students watch the life cycle of the butterflies in our very own classroom. The Kindergartners have done many different experiments in class and have had many hands on experiences.

We took a field trip to the Shedd Aquarium to learn about the different sea creatures and to the zoo to learn about different animals! We always loved learning about science. The Kindergartners have learned a lot in religion class too. We have learned about why we celebrate Easter, how to be a good friend, how to be loving, how God creates life, why people get married, and many more things. During religion time, the students always share how they feel about things and open up with the whole class. It has brought everyone closer together. We had a wonderful year in room 109 and it is sad to see the year coming to an end. Everyone has grown as a class, as friends, and as little people. We will miss being in Kindergarten but are happy and excited to be moving on to First Grade!
