| 7th Grade News: Mrs. Zielinski and Ms. Aiello | |
|
During the second half of the school year, the seventh graders have been busy preparing for Confirmation. The Sacrament of Confirmation was celebrated on April 28. Bishop Paprocki officiated. It was a very nice ceremony; Father John complimented the candidates on their knowledge and letters they wrote to him. Also, the seventh graders have been studying the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. Seventh grade focus of science was the animal kingdom beginning with the simplest through the most complex of organisms. Students enjoyed the unit of Earth Science culminating on building their own erupting volcanoes. Other areas touched upon were an introduction to matter and elements. Bringing an end to the year in science students enjoyed a 3 week unit on owls; researching a particular species, creating a food web, writing poetry, dissecting the pellet, counting bones, recreating the skeleton of the prey, and building the owl's habitat. In Math, seventh graders have been studying rules of exponents, the four operations of positive and negative fractions, ratios and proportion. They also studied the relationship of fractions, decimals and percents. Other topics covered were area, perimeter, surface area and volume.

In social studies they covered the American Revolution, the Constitution, slavery issues and are currently competing in the yearly Civil War game. The students have been divided into two groups; half Union half Confederate. The two sides have been competing against each other as they complete various activities related to the war. This will continue to the end of the year when they will compete in a final battle to test their knowledge of the Civil War. Congratulations to Adrian Lara and Michelle Bollin, two of the three winners this year of the Steve Hammond scholarship.
