Students Celebrate the Opening of School Mass

On Thursday, September 3, students in grades 1 through 8 attended Mass at St. Viator Church. They gathered in prayer and song to begin the new school year. Fr. Charles led the students in prayer. The theme of the Mass was "Share the Light of Jesus". Earlier in the week, each class discussed the way their class would share the light in the coming school year. These ideas were printed on candles. At the beginning of the Mass, each statement was read aloud as a student from that grade level carried the candle to the altar. These candles were attached to the display board.

This first Mass of the new school year involved the participation of many of the students across all grade levels. During the celebration of the Mass, students participated in reading the opening greeting, the class statements, the First Reading of the Mass, and the Prayers of the Faithful. Students served as altar servers, Eucharistic Ministers, gift bearers, and ushers. Students in grades 4 and 5 served as members of the School Choir. Mass ended with the song "This Little Light of Mine". The choir sang and played rhythm instruments while their classmates joined in the singing of the song.
