St. Viator elementary School is a Catholic school deeply committed to the development of the mind, body, and soul of each unique student. Under the sponsorship of St. Viator Parish, our school mission is to instill, for life, a love of learning, a respect for all people, and a commitment to Catholic social justice and peace. Our partnership with parents, parish, and community enables us to provide our culturally diverse student body with a quality education. St. Viator Elementary School strives for academic excellence by developing the individual potential of each student through our dedicated faculty and staff, extensive curriculum, extracurricular activities, and service.

From software to soft pastels, several programs are key to the St. Viator Journey.

A School for even the Youngest Students
We offer a part time program for 3 year olds, as well a NAEYC-accredited 4 year old pre-school and kindergarten programs, and grades 1st to 8th.

Reading Lab
A full-time reading specialist is on staff to meet the needs of all students, whether they are struggling and need a little extra help and encouragement or are advanced readers who thirst for additional challenges. Our junior Great Books program introduces advanced students to a broader selection of literature.

Computer Lab
A fully equipped computer lab with the latest high-speed internet technology is accessible to all students. Moreover, each and every St. Viator classroom is wired for internet use, and students learn keyboarding and other computer skills at a very young age.

Science Lab
Our fully equipped science lab enables students to conduct a wide variety of hands-on scientific experiments.

Music Lab
Children enter the wonderful and magical world of music through this program, in which they learn the fundamentals of composition and instruments, and are introduced to the world's famous and foremost composers and musicians.

Art Zone
Every child is an artist at St. Viator, where our enormously popular Art Zone exposes students to styles, tools and techniques of the great masters. At the end of each year Art Zone hosts an exhibit that showcases three mounted pieces of art from every St. Viator student.

Extraordinary Extracurricular.

Kid Care
Our extended child care program provides parents before- and after-school activities for their kids that includes arts and crafts, homework help, and fun playtime. The energetic and nurturing St. Viator Kid Care staff love what they do, providing everything from snacks to hugs.

Student Council
Students learn about government and the ways in which it functions while gaining a true understanding of the importance of school spirit, social awareness, service and leadership.

Athletics
Spearheaded by the all-volunteer St. Viator Athletic Association, our program fosters good sportsmanship and healthy athletic competition among our children. Students can begin a fun, informal Saturday morning gym program as early as kindergarten. Students in 4th through 8th Grades are invited to take part in our wonderful intramural basketball, volleyball, and cheerleading programs, and / or join our traveling teams.

Student Newspaper and Yearbook
The world's next Woodward and Bernstein can likely be found working on the St. Viator Eagle Edition, our student newspaper that includes articles, photographs, illustrations, poems and other creations that spring from the curiosity and imaginations of our children. Our young writers, photographers, designers and editors also find an outlet for their talents by working on the St. Viator Yearbook.

Band / Choir
Our talented and innovated musicians delight parents, educators and the entire community at performances twice a year. For students who love music but prefer to sing, the St. Viator Junior Choir practices weekly and gives several performances at church throughout the year.

Enrichment Clubs
From board games to badminton, cultures to cooking, St. Viator enrichment clubs provide a unique opportunity for students to have fun together while learning about a specific area of their choice.

About Us
Steeped in tradition, yet progressive and vital, St, Viator Elementary School has long been an integral part of the Old Irving Park community. Since 1902, we have endeavored to provide, quality education which develops the whole child, intellectually, spiritually and physically through a supportive partnership of faculty and parents. A state-accredited Catholic elementary school, St. Viator adheres to the high academic standards of the Archdiocese of Chicago. We are extremely proud that St. Viator's recently received the prestigious Cardinal's Award for Teacher Achievement. This award honors the commitment to academic excellence exhibited every day by St. Viator teachers, who utilize differentiated, hands-on methods to educate each, individual student based on his or her unique developmental needs.

Our Kids
It all begins with the curriculum. In pre-K, St. Viator anchors our youngest family members in the values of self-acceptance, respect for others, and empathy for all.

As students move toward young adulthood, the faculty prepares them for the rigors and challenges of top high schools by strongly emphasizing reading, math, and language arts. Coursework also heavily focuses on social studies and science, and is rounded by a full program in computer and library skills, art, music, and physical education.

Family and community involvement are key to the St. Viator experience. New students and families comment on how welcome they feel from the first day of school onward.
