Program sponsored by the Chicago Police Department

(l-r) Tiani Salgado, Jessica Lapacz, Officer Byerly, Andrew Campoverde, and Joshua Pagan

The G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education And Traning) Program is sponsored by the Chicago Police Department. This program provides students with information to help them make positive choices when faced with difficult situations, such as bullying. Officer Byerly visited our 4th graders once a week for 7 weeks. Each lesson consisted of a vocabulary activity, role playing situations, and lively discussions. Students were encouraged to think of possible solutions when faced with situations, discuss them, choose the best one, and write about it in the G.R.E.A.T. booklet. Each week, parents received a letter describing the lesson. At the end of the program, students received a special certificate of completion.
