A GREENER ENVIRONMENT FOR YOUNG ARTISTS St. Viator Elementary Students, Volunteers and Staff Work Together to Beautify Community St. Viator Elementary School celebrates the 10 year anniversary of Art Zone with the dedication of a mosaic mural on September 22, 2007. The Art Zone is a unique hands-on fine arts program for students provided solely thru volunteer efforts. The mural is a collage of images that children in grades pre-kindergarten through 8th designed in Art Zone. Students and volunteers worked together to create the beautiful 15' x 5' installation. The mosaic celebrates the students' diversity, interests and their relationship to their community at large. The colorful mural is installed on the west side of the school exterior for all to enjoy. Adding to the celebration, are new landscaping and gardens which create a green environment for the students and community. Large areas of asphalt have been removed in favor of grass, trees and gardens along the school property. Evergreens and perennials provide solace and a place to flourish year-round. This beautification is possible in part to the awarding of the Illinois First Grant. Thanks to the efforts of State Representative Richard T. Bradley and Dave Schlenbecker, Director of Building and Grounds to St. Viator, who helped secure the funds and for making a greener environment for all. Steeped in tradition, yet progressive and vital, St, Viator Elementary School has long been an integral part of the Old Irving Park community. Since 1902, the school has endeavored to provide, quality education which develops the whole child, intellectually, spiritually and physically through a supportive partnership of faculty and parents. A state accredited Catholic elementary school, St. Viator adheres to the high academic standards of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
