Hollywood Comes to St. Viator

St. Viator's gym and parking lot turned into the staging area for makeup and wardrobe for the filming of the new Johnny Depp movie Public Enemies

On Monday, June 2nd, St. Viator's gym and parking lot turned into the staging area for makeup and wardrobe for the filming of the new Johnny Depp movie Public Enemies which is directed by Michael Mann and expected to be in theaters July 2009. The movie depicts the Feds trying to take down notorious American gangsters John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd during a booming crime wave in the 1930s.

On Saturday, May 31st the crew began bringing in the wardrobe and on Sunday, June 1st the 40' x 100' tent complete with air conditioning for makeup and hairstyling for over 300 extras was set up. Beginning at 4:00 a.m. on Monday June 2nd, the gym and parking lot were filled with men and women dressed in 1930s attire. Busses both large and small transported the actors and actresses to nearby Portage Theater for filming that day. The crew returned on Tuesday, June 3rd to move the equipment to the next location.

A thank you to the Rectory Staff, Teachers and Parents for their cooperation in dealing with the inconvenience. A special thank you to Nic Schlenbecker for working with the movie crew and representing St. Viator during this four day process. There was very little disruption to the school day, thanks to Nic.

The students and staff enjoyed seeing the "Hollywood" action for the day
