ST. VIATOR SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION

TEAM RULES

Playing on a traveling team at St. Viator's is a privilege and is not guaranteed to anyone. Traveling teams are formed with the focus on competing hard and winning games thru hard work, dedication and sportsmanship. The same as working / studying to achieve the highest grade. Traveling teams are decided by try-outs, which are open to all children in each grade level 5th thru 8th. The St. Viator School Athletic Association policy is one team, per sport, per grade, per sex, per year.

Each traveling team consists of 12 to15 players maximum. It is the discretion of the coach to make cuts (if necessary), based on the athletic, emotional, educational and any disciplinary evaluation of the coaching staff. Playing time is the coach's decision and is based on the evaluation of the player's talents, skill level and competitive game situation. Although the Athletic Association Board policy of "some playing time for everyone" is stressed to all coaches, the actual amount is determined by the individual team coaches, so please note: Not all players are guaranteed playing time, in all games.

ANY PARENT THAT IS CONCERNED ABOUT EQUAL PLAYING TIME FOR ALL, IS ENCOURAGED TO HAVE THEIR CHILD PARTICIPATE IN THE INTRAMURAL PROGRAM WHICH FOLLOWS THE PHILOSOPHY OF EVERY STUDENT ATHLETE PLAYING AT LEAST ½ OF EACH GAME.

If a parent has a question regarding your child and their team, talk to the coach first. If no adequate resolution is achieved, the proper procedure is to contact the Athletic Association Chairperson. If still no adequate resolution is achieved the Association Chairperson will arrange a meeting with the parent, coach, Association Chairperson and the Principal. If still no adequate resolution is achieved, the Association Chairperson or the Principal will contact the Pastor. Please follow this procedure; do not approach the pastor without following the procedure.

Traveling teams represent St. Viator School and Parish at home and away. Proper conduct is expected at all times. All student athletes and their parents are expected to display good sportsmanship and to maintain appropriate behavior at all times. Foul language, violence, acts of vandalism or other unacceptable behavior can result in suspensions for student athletes and / or their parents. The coach and the executive board of the Athletic Association will make decisions on any suspensions if necessary.

It is the players (parents) responsibility to get to and from games and practices. Coaches do not transport players to games. "Out of game time" supervision and discipline of any player is the parents/guardian's responsibility, not the coaches.

St. Viator School's guidelines for success are respect, responsibility, effort, and honesty. Student athletes, coaches, parents and teachers represent our school and should reflect our guidelines at all times. The success of our programs depends upon the cooperation of these students and adults. St. Viator School recognizes the parent as the child's first and most important teacher. Decisions are not made by the administration exclusively, but involve parents, teachers, coaches, and students. Student athletes, parents, teachers, and coaches must work together to ensure the academic success of each child. All parents are encouraged to monitor their child's academic progress and behavior and take appropriate action if/when necessary.

Thank you for your cooperation and good luck on a successful season.

The St. Viator Athletic Association.
