Girl Scouts January service project!

Multiple Girl Scout troops from St. Viator Elementary School recently banded together for a service project at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) in Schaumburg. They took time from their Winter Break this past Saturday to pack meal kits with FMSC.

FMSC is a Christian not-for-profit dedicated to providing nutritious meals to children worldwide. They host meal-packing events to ship 3 varieties of pre-packed meals to hungry children. Quoting from their website, “Hope begins with nutritious food. FMSC exists to provide this hope in the name of Jesus. Nutrition allows children to grow, thrive and develop to their full potential so that they can become productive members of their communities. FMSC produces three special MannaPack® meal formulas developed by food science and nutrition professionals to supplement nutritional needs and reduce problems with malnutrition.Volunteers take the loose ingredients and pack them into the MannaPacks, then box the packs for shipment across the globe.

Scouts and their Troop leaders worked together during Saturday’s service event.

During their two hour shift, the girls helped fill 127 boxes with MannaPack meal kits. This means 27,432 meals, or 75 kids guaranteed a daily meal for an entire year! Their work was valued at roughly eight thousand dollars ($8,000).

A big thank you goes out to Feed My Starving Children for hosting our Girls Scouts and empowering them to make an actual improvement in the world.

And thank you to all of our Girl Scout Troop Leaders (all St. Viator Moms)!  If you are interested in enrolling your daughter in Girl Scouts, or want to help with a troop, please contact the Main Office so they can connect you with the right people. For those interested in Boy Scouts, please contact the Main Office, or Curriculum Director (and Eagle Scout) Paul Bangiola, to involved. We need parents to help re-start our Boy Scouts efforts!

We are proud of our Volunteer Troop Leader Moms and their continuous and creative Girl Scout programming. And we are so proud of our Girl Scouts and the focus and determination they showed while volunteering with Feed My Starving Children, and still clearing having fun. Go Eagles!
