Friday Faculty Feature: 2nd Grade

This week, we are pleased to introduce Ms. Angela Murphy, our 2nd Grade teacher! Ms. Murphy is joining us after graduating from the University of Dayton (GO FLYERS!). St. Viator is her first teaching job, and she is thrilled to be here. We are thrilled to have her here!

On Teaching

Reflecting on teaching, Ms. Murphy shared that her favorite thing is “seeing the excitement students have when they discover something new.” She loves being part of the “lightbulb moments” for students. Ms. Murphy shared some personal history, detailing, “Since second grade I have wanted to be a teacher and I truly am living my dream of being a teacher.” She hopes her families understand that she has so much passion for helping students reach their full potential and build confidence in their education. To date, she is most proud of securing her dual licensure, with an elementary education teaching license and a learning behavior specialist tier one license (special education).

A Warm Welcome at St. Viator

We asked Ms. Murphy to reflect on her time at St. Viator so far. She shared, “I love how welcoming the staff and families have been towards me, this is truly a unique community that is committed to helping students reach their full potential.” Ms. Murphy openly invites 2nd Grade Parents to be a part of their child’s educational growth, encouraging parents to read with their child and help them study for spelling tests. She wants her class parents to “feel free to reach out to me any time with questions or concerns!” As she settles in here at St. Viator, Ms. Murphy is looking forward to participating in art projects and service projects.

Fun Details

Ms. Murphy was generous with her answers to the “fun” questions, here are some of those details. Her birthday is April 10th, and her favorite holiday is the 4th of July. Continuing with favorites, her go-to drink to start the day is coffee or green tea (green happens to be her favorite color). As for food, her favorites are sushi and pizza (not necessarily at the same time). When it comes to favorite books, Ms. Murphy told us that she is a fan of the Magic Treehouse Series. Her favorite author is Judith Viorst. She is a pet lover, and hopes to get a dog in the near future. As far as hobbies, she loves creating art in her free time, taking photographs for engagements and family portraits. In fact, if she was not a teacher, Ms. Murphy would be a photographer.

But Seriously,

On a more personal note, Ms. Murphy shared that her grandmother is her hero. “She is the strongest woman I know and has a way of touching the lives of everyone she meets. Her faith and resilience inspire me daily, and I strive to live with the same kindness and strength that she shows.” Sounds like a great person to emulate.

We are thrilled to have Ms. Murphy here at St. Viator, and our 2nd Grade is lucky to have her in the classroom. We look forward to seeing what her class accomplishes this year!
