Art Zone started up this month, and we're ready for a new year of projects! Students learned about Lebanese-American visual artist, poet, and essayist, Etel Adnan. Adnan was know for abstract landscapes with simplified compositions and bright powerful colors. In her words, "It is the power of nature that comes to us through colour."

Trying out Acrylic Paints
While Adnan worked in oil paints, St. Viator students worked with acrylic paint on paper. Inspired by her paintings, they sketched an abstract image and color-blocked the shapes to create their own simplified landscape.

Parent Volunteers
We love our Art Zone volunteers! Once again, parents and grandparents joined the sessions to work with students on their pieces. Art Zone is one of the many ways that parents can connect with St. Viator School. From organizing the project and passing out supplies, to changing out water jars - parent volunteers make Art Zone happen. Sending a big "Thank You" to all of our Art Zone volunteers, from the coordinators to the parents in the sessions!

Art Zone runs each month from October through May. Every St. Viator class, from our 3 year old preschool through our 8th grade, enjoys a turn in the Art Zone room. Next April, we will hang the student works throughout the St. Viator halls, transforming the school into an art gallery. Art Zone provides fine arts programming for students, focused differently than classroom projects. Be sure to check back to see how the rest of the projects go, and watch for our Art Zone Open House in April 2026!

We are Peace Builder; We are Eagles; We are St. Viator!
