Honoring our Veterans

Once again, we hosted our Flag Retirement Ceremony on November 11th, Veterans Day. The ceremony honors our veterans, and remembers those who have fallen in service to our country. Each year, we remember in particular St. Viator Alumnus Charles Kefer, Jr.

The snow lingered on the front lawn, but St. Viator students gathered with their teachers by the campus flagpole.

Mr. Rieger, a Marine Corps veteran, and his son, a private in the National Guard, led the retirement of our old flag. He followed the Flag Code and the American Legion resolution of1937 where, "The approved method of disposing of unserviceable flags has long been that they be destroyed by burning." Members of the community sent their unserviceable flags for retirement, ensuring all of the flags were retired with dignity and respect.

Each year, we hold this ceremony in tribute to the men and women who have served in our Armed Forces. In light of Corporal Kefer (and countless others') sacrifice, we remember that, "All gave some, some gave all." We are grateful to our veterans, today, and always - we will never forget.
